What does that mean target audience? Well as Dictionary.com reads “ the intended group for which something is performed or marketed; the specific Group to which advertising is directed.”

The more defined your group the better understanding you will have of them and the better understanding you have the better you are at marketing to that group. Understand and talk their jargun/language, listen to their problems and answer their problems, let them know you understand them and get them. If you do this they are more likely to do business with you.

Alright you’re marketing to one group but getting business from another group as well. First don’t, I repeat, don’t market to both groups at the same time. Yes do business, but don’t market two both groups at the same time. Instead finish your marketing campaign first then go onto the next group, after all your product/service may fit several markets.

1. What are the demographics of your target audience?

  • how old are they?
  • how much do they make?
  • what do they do for a living?

In other words, what are the measurable statistics that you can find out about your market?

2. What are the psycographics of your target audience?

Are they all?

  • do they own a car?
  • are they dog lovers?
  • are they a homeowner?

You want to know the life styles of your target audience.

3. Will you find it enjoyable to work with this group?

If you’re going to be spending time with a group for a while wouldn’t it be nice to know if you are going to be repelled or bored with your target audience.

4. What kind of connection do you have to your target audience?

  • are you yourself part of your target audience?
  • have you ever been part of your target audience, present or past?
  • do you have friends and family that might be a part of your target audience?

5. Where does your target audience hang out?

Do you know where to find your target audience?

  • do they belong to a forum?
  • can they be found on a Q/A site?
  • can you find them in chat rooms?

In part you want to know where to talk to your target audience.

6. What types of media does your target audience use?

  • articles/reading
  • podcast/listening
  • video/watching and listening

If you’re going to stay in touch with your target audience, it’s best to know what types of medium they like to use.

7. Do you understand any problems are target audience has?

Will your product/service solve any of your target audience problems?

You really need to learn your target audience’s problems to make money.

8. Do you know the lingo, jargun, or language of your target audience?

This one should be a no brainer but here it is.

If you know the vocabulary of your target audience, the more credibility you will receive when used.

9. So what attracts your target audience?

What attracts your target audience’s attention?

How do you let them know about your product or services.

10. Who is it that can influence your target audience?

  • what do they advise?
  • Who are the people your target audiences respects?
  • are you able to align your product or service with them?

In conclusion

I would like to say I know if you follow these 10 steps you will know your target audience inside and out.
